Ventilation Design Services

Dutch Masters is pleased to announce that Harry Huffman will be providing ventilation design services for all the company's horse stable projects.  Ventilation is a critical part of any livestock housing structure.  Proper ventilation affects temperature, air quality, humidity and dust levels, therefore having a direct relationship to the environment and the long term health of the horses within the barn.

Harry Huffman, P.Eng - Agricultural Engineer

Harry is an agricultural engineer registered with Professional Engineers Ontario.  He graduated from the University of Guelph in 1971 and worked as an extension engineer with emphasis on livestock ventilation for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food (OMAF) until the fall of 2000.

Since then, Harry  has operated his own independent engineering practice in London, Ontario offering agricultural engineering expertise to the livestock and poultry industry.  Harry specializes in ventilation consults on the farm.

Harry is a member of the Canadian Society for Bioengineering, American Society of Biological and Agricultural Engineers, Canadian Farm Builders Association and the Ontario Poultry Council.

  • In-barn ventilation troubleshooting and recommendations for improvement.
  • Detailed ventilation system analysis utilizing computer software.
  • Development of customized controller stategies for livestock and poultry buildings.

Noteworthy Achievements

  • Authored and/or co-authored 5 CSAE/ASAE technical papers regarding ventilation and heating.
  • Lead author of OMAFRA's Ventilation Design Manual 1980.
  • Part of development team for VENT computer software 1984, 1988.  Refined and enhanced this computer software now titled FANVENT 1997, 2000/
  • Author of 3 OMAFRA factsheets regarding ventilation and heating.
  • Co-authored 3 CPS technical leaflets regarding ventilation design.
  • Developed and presented numerous ventilation schools, seminars and workshops for agribusiness and producers throughout Ontario.
  • An expert technical speaker regarding ventilation for livestock and poultry throughout Ontario and Eastern Canada.
